Multi-day Intensives

Typically involving 4 days across 2 weeks (e.g., 2 days in one week and 2 days the following week), or tailored to your unique needs, this format allows for extended, focused time to safely explore and process trauma at its roots. Built-in integration periods between sessions enable deep consolidation of therapeutic work.

Why Choose a Multi-Day Intensive?

This model aligns most closely with international research, which suggests that multi-day EMDR Intensives provide the strongest therapeutic benefits, especially for complex trauma and multiple traumatic memories. Multiple consecutive days allow for the processing of several memories or trauma targets within a single program—something not typically achievable in shorter formats.

Extended time supports a more immersive and continuous therapeutic flow, reducing the stop-start nature of traditional weekly sessions. Investing in a multi-day Intensive can help you prioritise your mental health in a focused and structured way, giving space for deeper engagement and integration.

With personalised pacing, regular breaks, and built-in self-regulation practices, this format is designed to maintain safety and balance while working deeply. A Multi-Day Intensive provides a unique opportunity to commit to your healing journey in a meaningful and structured environment, guided by experienced EMDR clinicians who collaborate closely with your broader care team.

  • Example trauma scenario for a multi-day session

    Example One:

A man in long-term therapy was struggling with persistent feelings of failure and worthlessness, despite having done significant CBT work.

Recommended Format: Two Consecutive Full Days for Complex Trauma

Focus: Childhood bullying and late-diagnosed ADHD. This format allowed for deeper processing of related themes.

    Example Two:

A man experienced a workplace injury that triggered intense fear responses and distress. During his assessment, it became clear that this event had also reactivated earlier traumatic experiences related to childhood punishment and emotional neglect. He was highly motivated to address these issues and had flexibility in his schedule as he was not working.

Recommended Format: Six full-day intensives delivered over three consecutive weeks (two days per week)

Focus: The initial days focused on processing the workplace incident and reducing reactivity. Subsequent sessions supported deeper work on long-standing beliefs about safety, failure, and shame. The spaced format allowed for integration and preparation between weeks while maintaining therapeutic momentum.

  • How Intensive Fees are Calculated

We understand that EMDR Intensives are a significant investment.

Consider the cost structure can provide helpful context.

A typical 50-minute therapy session often includes 10 minutes of check-in and 10 minutes to wind down—leaving about 30–40 minutes of focused work.

A 3.5-hour EMDR Intensive provides around 200 minutes of sustained therapeutic work. That’s the equivalent of 4–5 standard sessions—offered in one focused block, without the start-stop of weekly appointments, allowing us time for extended deeper therapeutic work and greater continuity and momentum.

At Lumify Health, the cost of EMDR intensives is based on the Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommended standard hourly rate for psychological services, $311.
